Tybee Vacation Rentals consistently receives negative reviews regarding property condition, cleanliness, and customer service. Recent feedback highlights issues such as damaged properties, unsanitary conditions, and unresponsive management. While some guests report positive experiences, the overwhelming majority describe unacceptable conditions and a lack of support when problems arise, particularly concerning refunds or improvements.
Excellent company and helpful staff. We ended up saving a couple hundred by going directly through Vacation Tybee vs AirBnB or VEBO for the exact same listing. Loved the place, location, service and price!!
To start, I want to say that we have booked with Tybee Vacation Rentals multiple times over the past 4 or 5 years. Until this past week (4/6-4/9), we had never experienced any issues. Location: Sandcastle - 86 Van Horne Ave Summary: 1. The house was nothing like the pictures seen on the website. The garage was damaged, the house was not clean, and it needed major updates. Please do not book based solely on pictures. Confirm before booking. 2. There was food from the previous booking. Food stains on dining room seats and in the fridge. 3. Showers were not cleaned properly. Hair remained in multiple showers throughout the property. 4. The stove was broken (the lower cover was completely off). 5. Customer service was very poor. When we arrived, the manager refused to speak with us. I requested the cleaners to come out, but they never showed. They did not allow us to change locations, and they refused a refund. Overall, this will be our last time booking with Tybee Vacation Rentals, but not our last vacation on the island. It has become a tradition for our family every year, and we will not allow this poor experience to deter us from our love for Tybee. Do your homework, folks. Don't rely solely on their website, as it's clearly not updated with recent photos and information. Don’t throw away your money and vacation.
We had a truly unacceptable experience with this Tybee Island rental, made worse by how it was handled by management. The property was in poor condition upon arrival, dirty mirrors, sticky countertops, worn furniture, low-quality bedding, and debris outside the entrance. It felt neglected and not properly cleaned before we checked in. The most significant issue was the bed. The mattress was worn out and extremely uncomfortable, and the frame squeaked loudly with any movement. Sleep was nearly impossible. This is a basic expectation for any rental, especially at this price point. We immediately raised these concerns and were initially told housekeeping could come out, but then were informed that no cleaning or maintenance would be done for the duration of our stay. On top of that, they refused any form of refund or accommodation. That response was just as disappointing as the condition of the property itself. When guests arrive to a unit that is clearly not up to standard, the expectation is that management will make it right, not dismiss the concerns and leave guests stuck. Between the condition of the home and the lack of accountability, this was not worth the cost. I would strongly caution others before booking.
Do NOT use this company when booking your stay on Tybee Island. We reserved a house for over $3,000 and were immediately met with terrible service upon our arrival. The cleaneing crew was still there and made us late for our check-in, and the house was left horribly dirty and with an awful smell. The floors turned our feet black, the pool was completely green and unsafe to swim in, and the heater did not work so the water was freezing. There was chalk written all over the ground and toys left everywhere, the outside furniture did not match what was on the listing online, debris everywhere, and the patio table was rusty and unusable. Also, the hot faucet handle on the kitchen sink was not attached. This was not appropriate for the amount of money spent.
The location was wonderful and the condo had great potential. However, Tybee vacation rentals was a huge disappointment! We rented a condo that slept 8 and had seating for 8. Upon arrival 2 of our beds were not made up, there was only seating for 6, and only 5 forks. The huge downfall was that our refrigerator broke, they replaced it that night with a smaller fridge that didn’t hold all our food along with a lot of our food spoiling and needing to be thrown out! We we reached out to Tybee vacation rentals I was told they are sorry but they didn’t have any extra bar stools in storage to drop off and would see if they had extra forks for us. Upon expressing my frustration they were able to find 3 more forks and drop them off. When asked for reimbursement for the food lost and other concerns we were informed that they would speak to a manager and get back to us. Unfortunately, they never reached up with a follow-up. Which to me is very crazy seeing as though they sent text daily checking on how our stay was but as soon as we expressed frustration they went silent. Very disappointed as we loved the Island and the location.
We’ve been renting from these wonderful people for years. This year we had some hiccups. Was no problem at all Candi, other staff as well as the after hours staff. So kind and helpful.
****Final edit. Amex did review the charge again and agreed that what advertised was not what they delivered. Crazy to think Amex seems more ethical than this company. Glad it’s over, reply if you ever need help fighting this kinda stuff. Never had to do before until this happened. Lived/learned. **** Last Edit. I did try to dispute the charge. They sent in there documentation of our signed contract for a no refund policy. It feel unethical the manner in which they do business. They clearly dont care about making it right. Again just beware. Lesson learned on my side. Just beware. You pay 450 per night for 3 nights and we got this. Just seems unethical to have you sign a contract and using the photos(the last ones) and then delivering the photos attached. I offered to pay for the first night as we didn’t get to stay there cuz our flight was canceled, not their fault. We finally get there and this is what it was like. We left immediately and went somewhere else. Also attached are photos of what we booked and what they list. *******Edit #1 since they replied. They offered all of $160 dollars as a refund when we spent 1200 on a place that even said they had fresh paint in the listing. Wasn’t expecting perfection, but they claimed this was what they considered “lived in” and not at all what this reply appears to project. Their reply seems disingenuous, just look at the other somewhat cookie cutter responses. It appears they have done the math, when we (TVR) miss the mark, there must not be a good enough return when they invest to make right. Because they don’t. They have your money, you signed the agreement, oh well seems to be the policy.
Something bad has happened with TVR. We rented from them for decades & this year was horribly different. Moved from regular rental (which became unavailable) to Dune Villa, which was literally falling apart. Leaky toilets, half the lightbulbs burnt out on arrival, leaky refrigerator, busted screens on porch, door handles falling off. Called & reported via portal daily, with NO return call ever. Finally learned owner “does his own maintenance” but clearly this means no one does. Sadly, we are unlikely to ever use TVR again after this experience.
We booked a 9-night vacation rental through VRBO, which turned out to be managed by Tybee Vacation Rentals. Everything from booking to check-in to check-out was effortless. The property (Captains Watch on Tybee) was very well maintained, clean, quiet and safe. The unit was incredibly well-stocked (especially the kitchen), and housekeeping measured up to my very high standards. Linens were crisp and clean and plentiful. Any questions or concerns were promptly and satisfactorily handled by management. We were so pleased with our experience that we booked another unit directly through Tybee Vacation Rentals when we needed to extend our stay.
Recently stayed at The Vue/ Beach Colony condos and it was a wonderful stay! We loved the beautiful view of the sunrise from the deck (pictures on this review are from the deck in our condo!), the two king size beds were perfect for our family, quick and easy access to the nice pool (with poolside bar!) and quick walk to the beach! The condo had a small washer, dryer, and dishwasher that all worked great. No pool/beach towels but that was listed, so we were prepared with our own! Only weird thing was that there was a broom but no dust pan or vacuum! However, the apartment was in good condition, clean, and we had such a great time. Highly recommend!
